The Rise of Media Rooms
When you think of a home theater, you might think of a closed-off room in your house for movie-watching. But a growing trend is media rooms – that is, a multi-purpose area of your home that also can serve as a dedicated home theater space. Today’s home theaters allow you to maximize your space while spending time with everyone in the family.
For example, if you plan to convert an existing living space in your home to a media room, you can add an ultra-bright 4K Ultra HD TV or an ambient light-rejecting projection screen and pair it with a surround sound system. With blackout motorized shading and decorative acoustic treatments available, as well, you can turn any space in your house to the perfect home theater design.
Accordingly, we’ve seen a shift in home theater furniture too. For example, sofas are beginning to complement individual theater seating to set a more family-friendly mood. We’ve also noticed seating trending to include gamers who want to get close to the action on the big screen.
4K Projectors
Considering upgrading the projector at your existing home theater? 4K HDR projectors are continuing to increase in popularity and are becoming more affordable. Sony, for example, recently unveiled three brand-new 4K projectors at CEDIA 2018 in San Diego.
If you have your home theater setup in a hybrid space, we can install a retractable screen that disappears into the ceiling and appears when you need it. That way, you can enjoy a truly multi-purpose space that doesn’t suffer from any interior design woes.
Dolby Atmos Everywhere
Experience immersive sound that mimics real life with Dolby Atmos-enabled content. Atmos allows you to hear each sound as an “object,” so you’ll get a layered, complex sound that enhances any movie. To date, around 500 Blu-ray discs have emerged with Atmos audio. Similarly, streaming services are catching on to the trend, enabling Dolby Atmos for Netflix and Amazon features. There’s just one simple catch.
Not every TV, receiver and streaming network will support Atmos. And only the top-quality Roku sticks, the Premiere, Premiere+, Streaming Stick+ and Ultra provides support, as well as the Amazon Fire TV Cube and Fire TV Stick 4K. For Netflix, you’ll need to upgrade to the 4K compatible plan.
Digital Interiors can also set up a media server that allows Wi-Fi and Dolby Atmos streaming so that you can relax and play your Dolby-enhanced movies without any additional equipment.
To get the most out of Atmos content, we recommend upgrading your surround sound system to include at least two overhead, in-ceiling speakers. This way, you can enjoy the truly three-dimensional sound effect that Dolby Atmos is known for.
