BOWERS AND WILKINS 802 DIAMOND SPEAKER BOWERS AND WILKINS 802 DIAMOND SPEAKER

The B&W 802 Diamond is the smaller of the two ‘headed’ models in the 800 Series Diamond. It offers immense levels of scale and clarity and is destined to be a favorite among audiophiles for many years to come.

If you’re looking for a speaker with the power, clarity, and presence of the mighty 800 Diamond, but your listening area can’t quite accommodate its studio-sized proportions, the 802 Diamond is the answer. Retaining the groundbreaking spherical head design of its bigger brother, it’s the closest you’ll get to true studio sound at home.

MODULAR DISC VAULT FOR BLU-RAY DISCS MODULAR DISC VAULT FOR BLU-RAY DISCS

The Modular Disc Vault imports and houses your Blu-ray Discs. Because digital copies are stored on a Kaleidescape server and the carousel does not need to rotate for playback, all of your imported Blu-ray movies are available instantly in any room at any time. You can enjoy a Blu-ray movie, without touching a disc, from any M-Class player while its disc remains safely in the vault.

The Modular Disc Vault holds 100 Blu-ray Discs and connects to an M300 Player or M500 Player with a USB cable. Any number of Modular Disc Vaults may be added to a Kaleidescape System, but each must be connected to its own M-Class player.

Available with production software in the first quarter of 2011.

2015 INDIANAPOLIS MONTHLY DREAM HOME 2015 INDIANAPOLIS MONTHLY DREAM HOME

The 2015 Indianapolis Monthly Dream home is an 18,000 sq.ft.  masterpiece constructed by Campbell Custom Homes.  The homeowners wanted a modern American home with all the latest and greatest residential intelligence available today.  As a result, Digitech Custom Audio & Video was called to duty.  Digitech has worked on six Indianapolis Monthly Dream Home projects dating back to 1993 and most recently did the 2015 IM Dream Home project with Scott Campbell.

The designers at Digitech had several planning and design meetings with the homeowners to dial in their needs in each area of the house.  Our mission was to provide all the technology and performance demanded by the client while keeping system usability intuitive and simple.  It is also necessary to engineer our solutions for ease of future serviceability while maintaining a sophisticated look throughout the home.

Simplicity is paramount for our system designs.  All the technology is great but it must be reliable and user-friendly.  As a result, house automation by Savant was selected.

CONTROL4 INTRODUCES TOO MANY NEW THINGS FOR ONE HEADLINE TO HANDLE CONTROL4 INTRODUCES TOO MANY NEW THINGS FOR ONE HEADLINE TO HANDLE

Control4 is unveiling a new round of updates at this week’s Integrated Systems Europe show in Amsterdam, and to be blunt there’s so much cool stuff that I don’t even know where to begin telling you about it. The gorgeous and brilliant revamp of comfort controls? The new high-definition video intercom experience? The new touch screen interfaces? The newly redesigned system remote control? Control4′s newly acquired line of AV distribution products? My job would be so much easier if I could just do an information dump straight into your brain containing all of the cool new stuff that Control4 is planning to roll out next month. But, alas, we need to do this in an orderly fashion, so let’s start with the big update: Control4 has announced the release of its latest massive software update, OS 2.7.

SONANCE’S NEW DISCREET OPENING ARCHITECTURAL SPEAKERS ARE DECEPTIVELY AWESOME SONANCE’S NEW DISCREET OPENING ARCHITECTURAL SPEAKERS ARE DECEPTIVELY AWESOME

Compactness almost always comes with compromises. I love theSmart Car, for example, especially for its ability to park perpendicularly in a parallel parking spot, but let’s face it: the Smart isn’t exactly a luxury automobile, nor a high-performance one at that.

The reason I mention this is because when I walked into Dana Innovations’ booth at this year’s CEDIA Expo and saw the new Sonance “Discreet Opening System” Architectural Series speakers, I dug the concept: a tiny four-inch flush-mount round or square grille designed to match the look of trim-less downlights, housing surprisingly powerful little speakers meant to be seen and never heard. What’s not to love about that?

What I didn’t expect, though, was for them to sound absolutely incredible. After all, there’s only so much sound you can squeeze through a four-inch hole, right? Or so I thought. That was before I stepped around the corner and heard Sonance’s demo of the system, which even on the noisy CEDIA show floor sounded spectacular.

BOWER & WILKINS REFINES ITS AFFORDABLE 600 SERIES SPEAKER LINEUP BOWER & WILKINS REFINES ITS AFFORDABLE 600 SERIES SPEAKER LINEUP

What’s the first thing you think of when you think “Bowers & Wilkins speakers”? Okay, to be fair, the first thing you probably think of is smooth, room-penetrating, balanced, studio-quality sound. But the second thing is almost certainly the price. B&W’s offerings are, no doubt, a luxury. You get what you pay for.

But sometimes you don’t. Sometimes you get a whole heck of a lot more than you pay for. Such is the case with Bowers & Wilkins’ newly updated 600 Series loudspeakers. The company has packed the fourth version of its popular speakers with oodles of technology borrowed from further up the B&W totem pole, including a Decoupled Double Dome Tweeter design borrowed from the stunning CM10. As its name implies, the Double Dome Tweeter consists of two separate aluminum domes, the inner of which has had its center section removed. The result is superior rigidity without contributing much extra in the way of weight, and the effect is that the first breakup frequency of the speaker has been extended to 38kHz, so in other words, the frequency response of the tweeter is smoother than a baby’s tushy until the frequencies are far too high for any human to hear.
