2015 INDIANAPOLIS MONTHLY DREAM HOME

2015 INDIANAPOLIS MONTHLY DREAM HOME

The 2015 Indianapolis Monthly Dream home is an 18,000 sq.ft.  masterpiece constructed by Campbell Custom Homes.  The homeowners wanted a modern American home with all the latest and greatest residential intelligence available today.  As a result, Digitech Custom Audio & Video was called to duty.  Digitech has worked on six Indianapolis Monthly Dream Home projects dating back to 1993 and most recently did the 2015 IM Dream Home project with Scott Campbell.

The designers at Digitech had several planning and design meetings with the homeowners to dial in their needs in each area of the house.  Our mission was to provide all the technology and performance demanded by the client while keeping system usability intuitive and simple.  It is also necessary to engineer our solutions for ease of future serviceability while maintaining a sophisticated look throughout the home.

Simplicity is paramount for our system designs.  All the technology is great but it must be reliable and user-friendly.  As a result, house automation by Savant was selected.

Savant is an Apple-based modular system custom-designed for small to large projects or in this case extra large.  This Savant system is the overseer of all the intelligence in the house including whole-house audio and video distributed systems, Lutron house lighting control, Lutron window shades, security system and cameras, door locks, and the heating-cooling system.  The homeowners can control the system from any of the wall-mounted touch screens, any of the remote controls, or any of their handheld smart devices, phones, or tablets.  They can even control their system when they are away from home.

The private home theater was a focal point of the project. The system features a Sony 4k projector and 4k video server for the ultimate high definition picture.  The Sony 4K projector delivers a stunning image boasting 4 times the resolution of a typical high definition TV.  The Screen Innovations 144” Black Diamond screen is breathtaking when paired with the Sony projector.  Utilizing SI’s proprietary ambient light rejecting technology, Black Diamond eliminates the need for dark, dedicated entertainment space and allows two-piece projection to exist in high brightness areas anywhere, anytime.

Anthem processors and amplifiers were chosen for the project providing amazing sound quality.  For architectural reasons the room was designed with a concrete floor and other hard surface materials.  Hard surfaces typically present major acoustic problems for theaters creating unwanted reflections and brightness in sound, Anthem’s ARC room correction software to the rescue.  The ARC software is the best of its type in the industry helping to flatten the response and deliver excellent audio performance in less than ideal spaces.  The homeowner’s remark after the ARC system calibration was “Fantastic!”

The homeowners have an extensive movie collection managed by a Kaleidescape Suite of equipment.  The Kaleidescape’s user interface makes finding and playing your favorite movies simple with the touch of a button.  Every night is movie night, just add popcorn.

The house audio system offers speakers in all key areas of the home with access to all the owner’s favorite music sources and extensive personal digital music collection.  Each room can play the same or different music as desired.  The kids can have their music in the playroom while mom and dad enjoy theirs in the hearth room.  All easily controlled by the Savant system.

The same goes for the video.  Each TV location throughout the home has access to home video sources.  Instead of having 8 cable boxes and 8 DVD players scattered all over the home, the boxes are located in the equipment room and accessible from any TV.  Dad has his DVR; Mom has hers and so on.  Even the Kaleidescape system is available with their entire library of movies on every TV.  Just tap the buttons and start your movie.

The homeowners wanted a sophisticated master bedroom but still wanted an entertainment system.  We came up with a clever compromise.  The master bedroom TV is hidden in the ceiling.  At a press of a button, the TV folds down out of the ceiling revealing a beautiful Sony 4k TV.  The audio comes through the ceiling-mounted speakers for a top-notch audio-video experience.  When finished just a touch of a button and it all rises seamlessly back into the ceiling hidden away.

The homeowners wanted a special listening room.  We created a special two-channel room featuring Bowers and Wilkins 805 Diamond speakers and Rotel Integrated Stereo Amplifier.  This high-end room allows the owners to listen to the music the way the artists had intended.

This active family wanted to take the fun outside as well.  What makes a pool even more fun?  A full speaker system from Sonance complete with 8 satellite speakers and a subwoofer.  All controlled from the Savant system.  They can use their smartphone to control the music just like they do indoors.

This tech-savvy family requested Wi-Fi on every inch of the estate and a chunk of the lake as well.  This was achieved by 7 Ruckus indoor wireless access points and 2 weatherized outdoor access points, all running through a Ruckus Zone Director for seamless movement across the property.

Finally, when you have this much equipment you better have racks that are up to the task.  We selected Middle Atlantic racks for their high quality and features such as integrated cooling, wire management, and locking doors.  Middle Atlantic racks are a sound foundation for any project.

This is an awesome system for an active modern family and is simple for everyone to use.
