Sonos has practically reached iconic status in the 17 short years since it was founded. Sonos delivers more than just wireless music, they deliver a fantastic experience. Sonos is essentially a software company that created one of the most reliable and intelligent pieces of hardware you can buy. That hardware, while robust, has a very modern aesthetic that doesn’t fit in a lot of spaces. Read on to see some of our favorite tricks for disguising Sonos to fit in any space.

Leon - The Artisans

If Sonos brings technology to music, Leon brings style. Leon was (I assume) founded on the idea that speakers could both look AND sound great. Leon has taken advantage of the popularity of Sonos among custom installers, and created products that make Sonos look as good as it sounds.  

The most popular for our Dallas clients has been the Leon Tonecase FIT. The Tonecase FIT is a custom mount that attaches a Sonos Playbar to a TV, and is completed with a custom grill that exactly matches the width of any TV for which it is ordered.  

Another brand new, and seriously gorgeous, product from Sonos is the Lean Ente SoundTile. No need to hide the speaker, Leon allows you to proudly display art in your home that doubles as an incredible audio system. Think of the old console stereo, but hidden in plain sight. The SoundTile looks like a framed canvas print, but behind the “grill” is a pair of audiophile grade speakers and a Sonos Amp. All the SoundTile needs is power.

Leon even offers custom hardwood cabinets to disguise Sonos speakers. If you already own a Sonos One, Sonos Play:1, Play:3 or Play:5, it can be placed inside a Leon Tonecase to hide it from view. That is cool.

Sonance for Sonos 

Sonance is one of the most prolific brands in the custom A/V industry, providing speakers for a large percentage of the industry. Sonance and Sonos have partnered to produce a line of in-ceiling, in-wall and outdoor speakers optimized to work with the new Sonos Amp. Like everything Sonos, the details are gorgeous, right down to a grill featuring a subtle radiating pattern. 

Sonance also offers invisible speakers, for the ultimate in disguise. Invisible speakers are installed during construction and textured or wallpapered over. There is literally nothing to see, yet you can hook up a Sonos Amp and make an entire wall sing…a fantastic surprise when entertaining.

Thenos PB1-C 

While the Sonance solution provides for architectural speakers to be used with Sonos, the speakers still most be wired to a Sonos Amp. While that typically isn’t an issue for us, it can be an issue in some homes. Thenos has a solution that may work in many places the Sonance option won’t. Thenos has recently created an in-ceiling backbox in which a Sonos One can be mounted. All that is needed at the speaker location is line-voltage power, which is often accessible when running new wiring isn’t an option. Once the housing is installed, the speaker mounted, and the grill in place the Thenos PB1-C looks just like any other in-ceiling speaker.
