Dolby Atmos
Home Theater Upgrade
When we at BRAVAS talk about a home theater we are referring to a room in your home that is truly a replacement for going to a commercial movie theater. Sadly, most home theaters that we see don’t fit that description. Often they have low-quality projectors that provide a dark image, speakers that are a poor fit for the space, and a confusing array of remotes that simply aren’t easy to use.
Some that we see are better, with nicer TVs or projectors, and reasonably good sound systems, but they are still missing one of the most important elements of a true theater. A real theater immerses the viewer in the movie; most home theaters just don’t do that. One reason is often the sound.
Most surround systems are 5.1, meaning there are five full-range speakers and one subwoofer. With 5.1 surround sound systems audio engineers have to specify which speaker or speakers a specific sound will emanate from, and the placement of those speakers is critical. With Dolby Atmos those same engineers can simply identify a point in space where they would like a sound to appear. Atmos then does the heavy lifting of recreating that sound in the exact spot in your room.
The effect of this technology is to create an experience in which you are completely enveloped in the sound of the movie or show you are watching. A creaking floorboard in a thriller may be placed low over your left shoulder. A helicopter might cross from one corner of your theater to the other, exactly mimicking what you are seeing on the screen at that moment.
To build an Atmos home theater you will need a few important things. A surround receiver or processor that decodes Dolby Atmos, speakers carefully placed in your walls and ceiling, and enough channels of amplification to drive each of those speakers. If that sounds confusing to you, our design engineers love this stuff, and are happy to create a design just for you.
When a BRAVAS home theater comes together as intended there is nothing to draw you out of the movie. We consider video, audio, furniture, and even the impact of noises from other rooms and mechanical systems. You can watch a movie anywhere, but if you want to have the best parts of the theater experience in your own home, let BRAVAS help you design your own Dolby Atmos home theater today.
