5 Landscape Lighting Mistakes You Don’t Want to Make

Outdoor Lighting Mishaps to Avoid

The main purpose of landscape lighting usually surrounds curb appeal, safety, and security.  You want to enhance every aspect of your University Park, TX property, not just parts of it!

As you prepare your outdoor lighting installation, ensure that you make the right choices the first time, and don’t waste any valuable time fixing avoidable wrongs.

Here are 5 mistakes you can easily prevent when getting started on your landscape lighting.

1. Only Adding A Few Lights

You might think adding in a few spotlights around the front yard will help illuminate your home enough for the desired effect.  And while the lights will certainly add some brightness, they could actually just further accentuate your home’s need for full landscape lighting.

By strategically placing lights all over your property, you’ll truly liven up your entire facade.  Including lights near your foliage, patio, and pool will help to round out the appearance and create a stunning presentation.

2. Lighting Fixtures Not Suitable for Daytime

While tactically installing lighting all around your property is ideal, you have to keep in mind these lights won’t just be seen during the nighttime.  It’s important to incorporate the fixtures seamlessly into the surrounding architecture.

High-end brands make products that blend in nicely so that they’re practically invisible in the daylight.  You can also hide the fixtures near foliage or flower beds to help further conceal them.

3. Creating Annoying Glares

Beautiful homes with tall floor-to-ceiling windows are lovely, but they also might complicate your outdoor lighting – if not placed correctly.

The best plan is to position the light’s aim and direction away from the glass.  Lots of fixtures have caps or domes that help keep the light pointed downward – eliminating the glare and any blinding to your passing eyes.

4. Not Using Energy-Saving Lighting

More lighting might feel like more energy costs and higher monthly bills are on their way.  This doesn’t have to be an issue if you use energy-efficient lighting.

LED lighting is a great investment.  The bulbs last up to 25 times longer than standard ones.  They have lower energy usage, and you won’t have to fret about replacing them for years and years to come.

5.  Not Automating Your System

You could always press a button to turn on the lights at sunset or turn them off when the sun rises, but how many times would you actually remember to do so?

Smart automation for your landscape lighting is the best way to go.  You can schedule the lights to turn on at a certain time or have the system’s sensors detect when the sun is setting – and have the lights gradually brighten.
