Four Practical Reasons to Upgrade to Wi-Fi 6

Four Practical Reasons to Upgrade to Wi-Fi 6

If you haven’t heard about Wi-Fi 6 I wouldn’t be surprised, wireless standards aren’t really cocktail party conversation…I hope. But as boring as Wi-Fi 6 may sound there are very compelling (maybe even exciting) reasons to be using this new standard in your home, and we have listed a few below.

1. Increased speed:

WiFi 6 has the ability to provide up to 4x the speed of its predecessor, most commonly called 802.11ac. If you have had your network equipment updated in the last few years this is probably what you have today. This makes it ideal for applications that require large amounts of data to be transferred quickly, such as streaming video or playing online games. But speed isn’t the only benefit to Wi-Fi 6.

2. Improved coverage:

With WiFi 6, signals can be sent over greater distances and penetrate walls better, allowing for improved coverage in large homes or offices. This is because previous versions of Wi-Fi focused on improving one part of the wireless spectrum, while Wi-Fi 6 improved on multiple. But this extended range still isn’t the biggest benefit most of our clients will see.

3. Increased capacity:

WiFi 6 can support more devices on a single network without performance degradation. This is great for households with multiple users or businesses with multiple devices. Your network performance isn’t only impacted by people logged into your Wi-Fi, even nearby wireless devices, like your neighbors or guests, can create traffic issues. This makes the increased capacity even more important, as the number of wireless devices in and around our homes is constantly growing.

4. Improved battery life:

The last, and most unique, benefit of Wi-Fi 6, is that it actually has the ability to improve the battery life of the devices connected to it, like your phone, tablet and laptop. It does this by “telling” your wireless devices when it will transmit to them next, allowing them to “sleep” between transmissions. This may not seem like much, but Target Wake Time (TWT) is a big step forward in a world that is dominated by mobile devices.

Wi-Fi 6 is a big improvement over previous versions, and may be a fantastic wireless upgrade for everyone in your home. It should improve your experience whether you are working, streaming, gaming or ordering dinner. Contact BRAVAS today to see how we can make your home a better place to live, work and play.
